6th Grade

:

6th graders have been learning about the characteristics and needs of living things.   They can differentiate between biotic and abiotic factors in an ecosystem, as well as identify the roles of the living things in an ecosystem.  Organisms can either be a producer or a consumer and consumers can be broken down into more specific groups.  Students have created food chains and will be able to tell how food chains and food webs are different.

Choose 3 of the lessons below.  Complete the lessons in your book.  Decide which topic most interests you and  Prepare a small poster, flyer or booklet to show what you have learned about that topic.  Be sure to include any vocabulary terminology and their meanings and of course answer the SWBAT (Student will be able to...)

6th Grade The Dynamic Earth-

Lesson 1: Earth’s Spheres

Obj: SWBAT

  Describe the Earth’s spheres and their interactions and explain the energy budget.

Lesson 2: Weathering

Obj: SWBAT

 Analyze the effects of weathering on Earth’s surface give examples

Lesson 3: Erosion and Deposition by Water

Obj: SWBAT

 Relate the processes of erosion and deposition by water to the landforms that result from these processes.

What types of landforms are made from erosion?

What types of landforms are made from deposition?

UNIT 2 Earth’s History

Lesson 1: Geologic Change over Time

Obj: SWBAT

 Explain how Earth materials, such as rock, fossils, and ice, show that Earth has changed over time.

Lesson 4: The Geologic Time Scale

Obj: SWBAT

 Understand how geologists use the geologic time scale to divide Earth’s history.

Unit 4 The Restless Earth

Lesson 2: Plate Tectonics

Obj: SWBAT

 Explain the theory of plate tectonics and plate movement.

 Identify the geologic events that are caused by plate movement.

Lesson 4: Volcanoes

Obj: SWBAT

  Describe the various kinds of volcanoes and eruptions.

 Where on Earth are most volcano’s and volcanic eruptions located?

 How do volcanoes change Earth’s surface?.

Lesson 5: Earthquakes

Obj: SWBAT

 Describe the causes of earthquakes.

 identify where on Earth earthquakes happen.
